Bears knock off ninth-ranked Ashland Blazer
LOUISVILLE — Butler County knocked off ninth-ranked Ashland Blazer on Saturday, Dec. 21, winning 72-57 in the King of the Bluegrass.
Following the win, Butler County improved to 5-4.
The Bears overcame a slow start to claim the win.
Ashland Blazer started strong, outscoring Butler County 11-5 in the opening quarter.
However, Butler County shook off its slow start to lead 30-23 at halftime.
Remaining out in front, Butler County led 50-42 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Ty Price poured in a game-high 31 points for the Bears.
Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen scored 14 points and Briar Griffin netted 10 points.
Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Curtis Murphy put up nine points.
Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Trever Deweese added six points and Case Hooten contributed two points.
Butler County is scheduled to meet North Laurel in the WGM Holiday Tournament at Lexington Catholic at noon on Friday, Dec. 27.
Bears suffer three-point loss to Male in overtime
LOUISVILLE — Butler County came up short as Male held on to win 75-72 in overtime in the King of the Bluegrass at Fairdale on Friday, Dec. 20.
Following the loss, Butler County slipped to 4-4.
Owning an advantage midway through the matchup, Male led 34-30 at halftime.
Male led 52-47 at the end of the third quarter but Butler County managed to pull even.
The Bears and Bulldogs were tied 66-66 at the end of regulation.
Determined Male pulled out a hard-fought win in the extra period.
Ty Price paced Butler County, scoring 33 points for the Bears.
Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen scored 16 points and Briar Griffin netted 15 points.
Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Trever Deweese added six points and Case Hooten contributed two points.
Bears fall to Fairdale in King of the Bluegrass
LOUISVILLE — Butler County suffered a setback as Fairdale won 87-72 in the King of the Bluegrass on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Following the loss, Butler County slipped to 4-3.
Butler County and Fairdale were tied 19-19 at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
But Fairdale pushed ahead and led 38-31 at halftime.
Extending its lead, Fairdale led 61-42 at the end of the third period.
Justin Castlen paced Butler County, scoring 24 points for the Bears.
Joining Castlen in double figures for Butler County, Briar Griffin scored 19 points and Ty Price netted 15 points.
Chipping in offensively, Trever Deweese (six points), Curtis Murphy (six points) and Case Hooten (two points) were Butler County's additional scorers.
