Bears to host second-ranked Hart County for district opener

MORGANTOWN — Butler County is set to host Hart County for its Class 3A, District 2 opener on Friday, Sept. 20.

Hart County is ranked second in the latest Kentucky High School Football Media Class 3A Poll. The Raiders are listed behind top-ranked Christian Academy-Louisville. 

Reigning Class 3A, District 2 champion Hart County notched a win over Butler County during the 2023 high school football season. Hart County shut out the Bears 48-0 on Sept. 15, 2023.  

Butler County is 0-4. The Bears have dropped games to Logan County, Webster County, Warren Central and Grayson County. Through four games, opponents have outscored the Bears 126-82. However, Butler County has suffered single digit losses in each of its last three games.  

Quarterback Garrett Phelps is leading the Bears. Through the air, Phelps has completed 47 passes for 775 yards and eight touchdowns. On the ground, Phelps has rushed 49 times for 460 yards and two touchdowns. 

Hart County is 4-0. The Raiders have notched wins over Nelson County, LaRue County, Green County and Elizabethtown. Through four games, Hart County has outscored its opponents 165-46. 

Quarterback Jacob Shoulders and running back Christian Martin are combining to lead the Raiders. Through the air, Shoulders has completed 15 passes for 453 yards and five touchdowns. On the ground, Martin has rushed 35 times for 512 yards and seven touchdowns. 

Butler County has regular season games remaining versus Hart County, Franklin-Simpson, Bethlehem, Adair County, Glasgow and Ohio County. Head coach Josh Robins guides the Bears.

Hart County has regular season games remaining versus Butler County, Caverna, Adair County, Glasgow, Franklin-Simpson and Campbellsville. Head coach Chad Griffin guides the Raiders.

Kickoff for the Butler County-Hart County game is slated for 7 p.m.
