Bears go 1-2 in Campbellsville Holiday Classic

Senior Zeke Woodcock drilled a three-pointer from mid-court at the buzzer to lift the Butler County Bears to a 61-58 win over host Campbellsville on Saturday, December 28.  The game was the Bears' third of the Campbellsville Holiday Classic.  Woodcock was named to the All Tournament team and Trevor Jenkins was named to the All-Academic team.

In a contest that featured 14 lead changes and 12 ties, Butler County was led in scoring by Zack Burden's 17 points and Woodcock's 15, along with a team high 13 rebounds.  Butler County had the largest lead of the game at 26-18 before Campbellsville tightened the gap. 

Butler County was 23/52 in field goals (44.2%); 5/16 in three-point goals (31.3%); and 10/13 in free throws (76.9%).

In their opening round game on Thursday, December 26, the Bears dropped a 72-50 decision to Green County.  After a 20-16 first-quarter advantage for Butler County, Green took control of the game - outscoring the Bears 23-11 in the second, 20-7 in the third, and 13-12 in the fourth en route to the 22-point win.

Zeke Woodcock led the Bears in scoring with 16 points; Trevor Jenkins had 14.  Rex Henderson grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team.

Butler County was 20/63 in field goals (31.7%); 4/24 in three-point goals (16.7%); and 6/14 from the free throw line (42.9%).  Green's largest lead was 25 at 63-38.  There were four lead changes and five ties.

Butler County lost a high-scoring affair in its second tournament game on Friday, December 27, falling 91-81 to Taylor County.  The Bears fell behind early in the game and trailed 22-13 after the first quarter. 

Butler County placed four four players in double figures, led by Rex Henderson's 18, Zack Burden's 17, Caleb Deweese's 14, and Zeke Woodcock's 11 (along with 7 rebounds).  

Butler County was 30/65 in field goals (46.2%); 6/18 in three-point goals (33.3%); and 15/19 in free throws (78.9%).  Taylor's largest lead was 13 points at 17-2 in the first quarter.

Butler County (6-4) returns to regular-season action on Thursday, January 2, at McLean County.  On Friday, Butler County will host 12th District opponent Whitesville Trinity at home in a boy-girl doubleheader.
