Bears finish runner-up in 12th District

BROWNSVILLE — Butler County came up short as Edmonson County prevailed 82-74 in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament championship game on Friday, Feb. 24.
The Bears faced a deficit at the end of each quarter in the district title tilt. 
Starting strong, tournament host Edmonson County outscored the Bears 19-10 in the first quarter.
 
Edmonson County led 36-25 at halftime and extended its lead after the intermission period.
The Wildcats led 58-44 at the end of the third quarter. 
Braxton Highbaugh paced Edmonson County with a near-triple-double, delivering 22 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Wildcats in the district championship game.
 
Accompanying Highbaugh in double figures for Edmonson County, Will Alexander scored 20 points, Tyler Anderson netted 11 points and Braden Wall contributed 10 points. 
Aiding Edmonson County offensively, Zander Bass (eight points), Boden Bates (eight points) and Joshua Decker (three points) provided the Wildcats' additional scoring.
Butler County featured five scorers, four of whom reached double figures. 
 
Ty Price scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Bears. Along with Price reaching double figures for Butler County, Trever Deweese scored 17 points, Lawson Rice netted 15 points and Justin Castlen tallied 12 points. 
Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Luke Laughing chipped in two points for the bears. 
Both Edmonson County (18-12) and Butler County (21-10) advance to the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.
