Bears Fall to Trinity 5-8

Tuesday night was a tough one for the BCHS Bears baseball team as they faced off against district foe Whitesville Trinity.  In the first match-up between the two teams, the Bears won with a score of 6-0, only allowing Whitesville to have 3 hits.  Tuesday night was a different story, as Whitesville exploded for 16 hits in their 8-5 defeat of the Bears.

In the first inning of play Whitesville came out swinging immediately pushing across 3 runs.  Sophomore lefty Caleb Hunt made his second start against Whitesville after collecting the victory over Warren Central on Friday.  Hunt did not have his best stuff after 4 days rest, and left the game after throwing 63 pitches over 4 innings.   Hunt allowed for 4 earned runs to cross the plate and gave up 10 hits.  Mental mistakes and fielding errors haunted the Bears all night.  BCHS made three fielding errors, allowing for 2 unearned runs to cross home plate.  Offensively, senior Elijah Flener led BCHS with his 3 singles.  Brandon Jones hit a big 2 RBI double to give the Bears 5 runs.  The Bears could not advance past 5 runs however, and came up blank in the 6th and 7th innings of play.  Blake Graham relieved Caleb Hunt on the mound, but also could not quite the Whitesville hitters, giving up 2 earned runs.  Bears head coach Kevin Winn on the loss, “We obviously did not play our best game of the season, but you have to give Whitesville credit.  They played extremely well and hit everything that we threw at them.”  With the loss, BCHS moves to 1-1 in district and will look to improve on their district record when they play Edmonson County on Tuesday.  Friday’s game against University Heights has been canceled.
