Bears fall to Lyon County in Limestone Bank Christmas Classic

MORGANTOWN - As part of splitting games on the opening day of the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic on Thursday, host Butler County dropped a game to Lyon County. The Lyons beat the Bears 62-57.
Lyon County won despite shooting only 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field. The Lyons were 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from 3-point range. 
Lyon County, a team out of the neighboring 2nd Region, shot 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the free throw line. 
Seventh grade guard Travis Perry poured in a game-high 25 points to lead Lyon County to the victory. Aiding the Lyons, Jackson Shoulders recorded a double-double, netting 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Accompanying Perry and Shoulders in double figures for the Lyons, Nick Whalin added 10 points, along with eight rebounds. 
Butler County lost despite shooting 44 percent (22-of-50) from the field. The Bears were 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range. 
Butler County shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line.
Justin Elms and Parker Rice paced Butler County with 16 points apiece. Joining Elms and Rice in double figures for the Bears, Jaden Hurt added 10 points. Rice recorded a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds in the Bears' setback. 
Butler County pulled away to defeat 1st Region member Fulton City 53-33 in another game on Thursday.
 
Bears split first two games in Limestone Bank Christmas Classic
 
MORGANTOWN - Host Butler County split its first two games in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic on Thursday. 
The Bears defeated Fulton City but fell to Lyon County.

Butler County 53, Fulton City 33: Homestanding Butler County dominated against an opponent from the 1st Region in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic on Thursday, rolling past Fulton City 53-33.
Butler County shot 40.4 percent (21-of-52) from the field. The Bears were 5-of-19 from 3-point range. 
Butler County shot 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.
Dominating inside, Butler County outrebounded Fulton City 42 -18. 
Jaden Hurt led Butler County with a game-high 19 points. Hurt was the only Butler County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Other scorers for Butler County in the convincing victory were Parker Rice (seven points), Justin Elms (six points), Brody Hunt (five points), Hayden Hodge (four points), Solomon Flener (four points), Jagger Henderson (three points) and Leevi McMillin (two points). 
Flener paced Butler County inside, securing a game-best seven rebounds. 
Struggling offensively, Fulton City shot only 26.8 percent (11-of-41) from the field. The Bulldogs were 4-of-13 from 3-point range.
Fulton City managed to shoot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line in the lopsided loss. 
Drew Malray paced Fulton City with 10 points. Malray was the only Fulton City player to reach double figures in the scoring column. 
Butler County owned multiple leads before visiting Lyon County battled back to win 62-57 in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic on Thursday. 
The Bears are scheduled to face Caldwell County in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
