Bears Fall to Logan, Ohio Counties

The Bears have suffered losses in their last two game of action against Logan County 13-3, and Ohio County 6-5.  They look to improve in their next three games this week against Edmonson, Davidson Academy, and Greenwood.


 Saturday’s match-up was against the Cougars of Logan County as BCHS traveled for the single game match-up.  Logan County came into the games with a record of 14-5, best in region 4.  Senior Keston Flener made the start on the mound and stayed in for only 2 1/3 innings, giving up 5 earned runs off of 6 hits.  After entering the game in the third inning at first base, Conner Reed was able to collect 2 hits, leading the Bears offensively.  The Bears made it interesting in the 5th inning of the play as they came rallying back, making the score 6-3 with the bases loaded.  However, BCHS was unable to score any more runs and left base runners stranded.  In the 6thinning of play, the Cougar’s bats woke up once again and the ended up scoring 7 runs in the to run rule the Bears 13-3.  Freshman Eddie Phelps made his first appearance on the mound, throwing 3 2/3 innings.

 On Monday night the Bears returned home to play Ohio County for the first time this season.  Their first scheduled meeting on March 11 was canceled due to weather. Offensively, BCHS came out strong.  After a big inning with a double by Conner Reed, Butler County jumped out to an early 4-1 lead.  Blake Graham pitched a complete game for BHCS.  Mental mistakes and errors came back to haunt the Bears, allowing Ohio County to even to score up 5-5.  In the 7th inning, Ohio pushed another run across after a single up to middle, jumping ahead 6-5.  Butler County came out aggressive in the final at bat trying to defeat Ohio.  After getting runners on first and second with no outs, BCHS was unable to drive in any runs, and lost 6-5.

Butler County will travel to play district foeEdmonsonCountyin a 5:00 Varsity/JV double header.  This is the first meeting of the two teams this season.  In 2012, the Bears were 1-2 against Edmonson. 

 Wednesday BCHS will play a game on the field ofWestern Kentucky University against the Bears of Davidson Academy out of Nashville,TN.  BCHS head coach Kevin Winn will square off in a coaching match against his brother, Dennis, who is the head coach for Davidson.
