Bears fall to Daviess County in region semifinals

MORGANTOWN - Butler County fell behind early and couldn't battle back as Daviess County pulled away to win 11-3 in the semifinals of the 3rd Region Softball Tournament on Monday, June 7. 
The loss eliminated the Bears from the high school softball postseason. Butler County exited the 2021 high school softball season 31-8. 
Following the win, Daviess County advanced to the 3rd Region Softball Tournament title game. 
Greysyne Whiteker earned the pitching win in the circle for Daviess County. Whiteker surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out two. 
Closing out the game in the circle for Daviess County, Raylee Roby threw two innings in relief.
Aliceson Hunt took the pitching loss for Butler County. Hunt surrendered 11 runs on 14 hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Daviess County outhit the Bears 14-8. 
Abby Newman, Kelsea Roby, Seana Leibfried, Miller Roberts and Hattie Newman each recorded multiple hits for Daviess County. Abby Newman went 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the Panthers' offensive attack. 
Moving runners around the bases for Daviess County, Jessie Daniels homered and drove in four runs. 
Olivia Austin led Butler County at the plate, recording two hits in four at-bats.
 
Chipping in offensively for the Bears, Hunt, Carley Jones, Autumn Proctor, Aleace Hall, Madison Clark and Isabella Akers tallied one hit apiece. 
Helping her pitching cause at the plate, Hunt doubled for the Bears. 
Each 3rd Region softball team committed one error in the region tournament game.
