Bears to face Aces in region tournament opener

OWENSBORO - Butler County will meet Owensboro Catholic in the opening game of the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Bears, under the direction of head coach Calvin Dockery, knocked off Grayson County 63-51 in the 12th District Boys Basketball Tournament title game on Friday night. Butler County is 21-9 heading into the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.

The Aces finished runner-up to rival Owensboro in the 9th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. Owensboro defeated Owensboro Catholic 66-50 in the 9th District title game. Under the direction of head coach Tim Riley, Owensboro Catholic is 18-14 heading into the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Along with Butler County and Owensboro Catholic, the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament will include Grayson County, Owensboro, Breckinridge County, McLean County, Meade County and Muhlenberg County.

Owensboro is the reigning 3rd Region boys' basketball champion.
