Bears drop three-point game to St. Xavier

PADUCAH — Butler County faced a single digit deficit at the conclusion of each quarter as St. Xavier held on to win 82-79 during Mustang Madness at McCracken County High School on Saturday, Jan. 6. 

Following the loss, Butler County, which has faced one of the toughest schedules among boys' high school basketball teams in the state, dropped to 6-5. 

Moving ahead, St. Xavier outscored Butler County 25-18 in the first quarter.

St. Xavier clung to a 43-40 lead at halftime.

Still owning a slim advantage after the intermission period, St. Xavier led 64-61 at the end of the third quarter. 

Butler County received scoring from five players, four of whom reached double figures. 

Ty Price scored 27 points to lead the Bears. Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 22 points, Justin Castlen netted 16 points and Briar Griffin added 12 points.

Chipping in offensively for Butler County, Trever Deweese delivered two points. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Greenwood on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Tip-off for the Butler County-Greenwood boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
