Bears drop opener; rebound to defeat Breck and Thomas Nelson

The Butler County Bears dropped their season opener on Monday of last week but came back strong to pick up wins against Breckinridge County and Thomas Nelson.  The Bears fell 83-71 to Paducah Tilghman, defeated  Third Region foe Breckinridge County 88-81, and routed Thomas Nelson 66-43. 

Butler County got behind early against Tilghman, 23-14 after the first quarter, and was never really able to close that gap, despite placing four players in double figures. An eight-point deficit at halftime grew to a 14-point disadvantage after three quarters.

Junior guard Will Moore led the Bears in scoring with 17 points, followed by Brennan Grubb with 14, Rex Henderson with 13, and Baylee Anderson with 12.

A 31-point blast from Will Moore helped power the Bears past visiting Breckinridge County 88-81 in overtime on Thursday, December 1.  The Bears jumped on the Tigers early and staved off a late rally and an overtime period to secure their first win of the season.

Henderson, Anderson and Graham each had 13 points apiece to pace the Bears' scoring efforts.

Butler County easily outpaced Thomas Nelson 66-43 on Saturday to earn their second win of the week and their first road win of the early season.  Will Moore led all scorers with 20 points.  Rex Henderson had 17 points, Blake Graham had 13 points, and Baylee Anderson chipped in 13 points.
