Bears drop one-point game to Russell County

RUSSELL SPRINGS — Butler County came up short as Russell County held on to win 90-89 in a boys' high school basketball game on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The Bears nearly pulled off a come-from-behind win.

Russell County led the Bears 43-28 at halftime. 

Butler County shot 42.1 percent (32-of-76) from the field in the setback. The Bears shot 40 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the free throw line. 

Ty Price poured in a game-high 41 points to lead the Bears.

Recording a double-double for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 30 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. 

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for the Bears, Justin Castlen netted nine points.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Keagen Grubb, Trever Deweese and Carson Miller chipped in three points apiece for the Bears. 

 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Cloverport in the opening round of the Whittaker Country Christmas Tournament at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19.
