Bears drop four-point game to Franklin-Simpson

FRANKLIN - Butler County suffered its second straight loss on the road as host Franklin-Simpson held on to win 39-35 in a non-district boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday night. 

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 13-9.

Franklin-Simpson improved to 13-10 with the win.

Host Franklin-Simpson, a team out of the neighboring 4th Region, won despite shooting only 34.3 percent (12-of-35) from the field. The Wildcats were 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range. 

Franklin-Simpson shot 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free throw line. 

Andreyous Miller led Franklin-Simpson with a team-best 15 points. Miller was the only Franklin-Simpson player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring, Dawson Knight netted nine points for the Wildcats. 

Finishing directly behind Knight in the Franklin-Simpson scoring column, DeMarco Chatman contributed eight points. 

Dayveon Harris and Tedric Partinger rounded out the Franklin-Simpson individual scoring, chipping in four points and three points, respectively. 

Harris paced Franklin-Simpson inside, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. 

Butler County shot 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from the field. The Bears were 2-of-7 from 3-point range. 

Butler County shot 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line. 

Parker Rice led Butler County with a double-double, scoring a game-high 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Rice was the only Butler County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Following Rice in scoring for the Bears, Justin Elms and Jaden Hurt added seven points apiece. 

The other scorers for Butler County were Brody Hunt (two points), Leevi McMillin (two points) and Solomon Flener (one point). 

Butler County is scheduled to visit 3rd Region rival McLean County for another non-district boys' high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 7. Tip-off for the Butler County-McLean County boys' basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
