Bears drop district game to Owensboro Catholic

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was limited offensively as Owensboro Catholic pulled away to win 35-12 in a Class 2A, District 2 game on Thursday, Oct. 6. 

Owensboro Catholic dealt Butler County its second straight Class 2A, District 2 loss. 

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in Class 2A, District 2.

Owensboro Catholic improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A, District 2 after notching the win.

Visiting Owensboro Catholic scored first and never trailed. However, Butler County pushed Owensboro Catholic throughout the Class 2A, District 2 game. The Bears managed to move the ball both on the ground and through the air. 

Reaching the endzone early, Owensboro Catholic led 7-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter. 

But the Bears answered. 

Butler County pulled to within one point of Owensboro Catholic when Brody Hunt scored on a two-yard run at the 10:08 mark of the second quarter.

Leading 7-6, Owensboro Catholic managed to extend its lead later in the second period. The Aces led 14-6 at halftime and remained out in front after the intermission period.

Adding two touchdowns shortly after the break, Owensboro Catholic led 27-6 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County returned to the endzone with 11:55 remaining in the game when Garrett Phelps completed a three-yard scoring pass to Keagen Grubb. 

Butler County has regular season games remaining versus Todd County Central, Clinton County and Ohio County. The Bears are scheduled to visit Todd County Central for a Class 2A, District 2 game on Friday, Oct. 14.
