Bears defeat Ohio County 24-16 in season finale

MORGANTOWN — Returning to the win column, Butler County defeated visiting Ohio County 24-16 in its season finale on Friday, Oct. 27.

With the win, Butler County exited the 2023 high school football season 2-8.

Following the loss, Ohio County dropped to 1-9.

The win allowed Butler County to halt a losing skid at games.

Butler County scored first and never trailed. After recording a safety, Butler County led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Stretching its lead, Brandon Embry-coached Butler County entered halftime out in front 17-0.

Remaining in control, Butler County led 24-8 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Garrett Phelps completed three touchdown passes to lead Butler County to the win.

Gage Beasley hauled in two touchdown pass receptions for the Bears.

On the receiving end of Beasley's other scoring strike for Butler County, Jay Peralta reeled in one touchdown pass reception.

Defensively, Butler County limited Ohio County during the matchup.

Following the victory over Ohio County, Butler County will turn its focus to the 2024 high school football season.
