Bears defeat Edmonson, fall to Hopkinsville

 Price powers Bears past Wildcats, 66-63

 

MORGANTOWN — Ty Price poured in a game-high 40 points to lead Butler County past visiting Edmonson County 66-63 in a 12th District boys' basketball matchup on Friday, Feb. 10.

Thriving throughout the game, Price drained 10 of 11 free throws during the final two minutes of the district matchup. 

The win allowed Butler County to claim the number one seed for the 2022-23 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 

Calvin Dockery-coached Butler County carried a lead out of each quarter during the district game, outscoring Edmonson County 13-8 in the first period.

Butler County led 33-23 at halftime but Edmonson County continued to push after the break.

The Bears led 47-40 at the end of the third quarter. 

Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen netted 13 points.

Providing Butler County's additional scoring, Lawson Rice added seven points, Trever Deweese contributed four points and Luke Laughing chipped in two points. 

Will Alexander scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats. Accompanying Alexander in double figures for Edmonson County, Braden Wall scored 12 points and Caden Mills netted 10 points.

The additional scorers for Edmonson County were Braxton Highbaugh (eight points), Boden Bates (seven points), Tyler Anderson (five points) and Zander Bass (two points). 

Butler County is scheduled to meet Hopkinsville in the Lyon County Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11. Tip-off for the Butler County-Hopkinsville game is slated for 2 p.m. in Eddyville. 

 

Bears come up short versus Hopkinsville

 

EDDYVILLE — Butler County came up short as Hopkinsville prevailed 71-66 in the Akridge Ace Jam at Lyon County High School on Saturday, Feb. 11. 

The Bears and Tigers battled back and forth throughout the matchup.

Hopkinsville edged Butler County 18-17 in the first quarter.

But the Bears managed to pull even. Butler County and Hopkinsville were tied 28-28 at halftime. 

Starting strong after the intermission period, Hopkinsville outscored Butler County 18-13 in the third quarter to move ahead 56-51. 

DeTravious Leavell scored 17 points to lead Hopkinsville to the win. 

Accompanying Leavell in double figures for the Tigers, KeiMarion Smith scored 16 points, Antonio Williams netted 14 points and Jacob Gavin contributed 10 points. 

Williams logged a double-double for Hopkinsville, grabbing 10 rebounds.

Finishing with single digits, Isaiah Manning (eight points), Gavarion Northington (four points) and Kris Johnson (two points) provided Hopkinsville's additional scoring. 

Manning paced Hopkinsville inside, clearing out 11 rebounds for the Tigers. 

Ty Price scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Bears. Joining Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 15 points and Justin Castlen netted 12 points. 

Accounting for Butler County's other scoring, Trever Deweese and Keagen Grubb chipped in two points apiece. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Fort Campbell on Monday, Feb. 13. Tip-off for the Butler County-Fort Campbell boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
