Bears claim wins over Union County, Cloverport

Butler County claimed back-to-back wins over Union County and Cloverport in the Whittaker Country Christmas Tournament on Monday, Dec. 19. 

Butler County 80, Union County 65: Butler County beat Union County 80-65 in the Whittaker Country Christmas Tournament on Monday, Dec. 19. 

Delivering a game-high double-double, Lawson Rice scored 26 points and hauled down 21 rebounds to lead Butler County to the win.

Accompanying Rice in double figures in scoring for the Bears, Justin Castlen and Ty Price netted 20 points apiece.

Kolton Hudson added eight points, Luke Laughing contributed four points and Keagen Grubb chipped in two points to account for the rest of Butler County's scoring. 

Butler County shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field. The Bears were seven-of-21 (33.3 percent) from three-point range.

Butler County shot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the free throw line. 

Butler County 90, Cloverport 37: Butler County leveled Cloverport 90-37 in the Whittaker Country Christmas Tournament on Monday, Dec. 19. 

Ty Price scored 25 points to lead Butler County to the win. 

Butler County featured four scorers in double figures. Accompanying Price in double figures for the Bears, Lawson Rice scored 19 points while Justin Castlen and Trever Deweese added 14 points apiece. 

The other scorers for Butler County in the convincing win were Keagen Grubb (seven points), Kolton Hudson (four points), Case Hooten (three points), Colt Akers (two points) and Luke Laughing (two points). 

Butler County shot 52.9 percent (37-of-70) from the field. The Bears were 12-of-26 beyond the arc, shooting 46.2 percent from three-point range. 

Butler County shot 80 percent (four-of-five) from the free throw line.
