Bears claim 12th District Title

LEITCHFIELD — The Butler County Bears are back on top in the 12th District.

Butler County pulled away to defeat Edmonson County 79-40 in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament title game at Grayson County High School on Friday, March 1.

Following the win, Butler Couty improved to 20-8.

Edmonson County dropped to 14-15 after suffering the loss. 

Both Butler County and Edmonson County advance to the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament, which will be held at the Owensboro Sportscenter. 

Butler County set the tone early during the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament title game, outscoring Edmonson County 25-7 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 38-22 at halftime and remained in control through the second half.

Butler County led 66-29 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Ty Price scored 24 points to lead Butler County to the district championship-clinching win. Accompanying Price in double figures for Butler County, Lawson Rice scored 17 points and Briar Griffin netted 15 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen and Trever Deweese posted nine points apiece.

Chipping in offensively for Butler County, Nicholas Francisco added three points and Case Hooten contributed two points. 

 Rice, Price, Griffin and Castlen represented Butler County on the All-12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament Team. 

Butler County Coach Calvin Dockery won his fifth district championship in 12 seasons.
