Bears blank Caverna behind duo's no-hitter

MORGANTOWN - Kylee Smith and Evyn Frazier combined to throw a no-hitter as Butler County blanked visiting Caverna 12-0 in five innings in a high school softball game on Thursday.
Butler County took control early and dominated throughout the prep softball matchup.
The Bears, under the direction of head coach John Embry, plated a dozen runs on eight hits. Butler County moved ahead early, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
The Bears put the game out of Caverna's reach in the second inning, erupting for seven runs to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
Butler County led 11-0 at the conclusion of the third inning and added another run during its fourth plate appearance to set the final score.
Caverna batters were limited throughout the contest.
Smith earned the pitching win. The Butler County starter went four innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out five and walking zero. Frazier threw one inning in relief for the Bears. The Butler County reliever recorded the last three outs to earn the save.
Caverna pitcher Cailee Carter suffered the loss. Carter worked four innings, allowing eight hits and 12 runs.
Thacker and Jones led the Butler County offensive attack with two hits apiece.
Each high school softball team committed one error.

Bears fall behind early, drop district game to Grayson County

LEITCHFIELD - Visiting Butler County fell behind early and couldn't make up for its slow start as rival Grayson County pulled away to win 6-1 in a 12th District softball game on Friday.
Butler County and Grayson County are longtime rivals and Friday's matchup renewed a rivalry on the softball diamond.
The Bears produced at the plate throughout the district contest. Productive Butler County lost despite outhitting Grayson County 11-8
Grayson County pitcher Embry Thorpe earned the win. Thorpe pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits and one run while striking out seven over seven innings.
Kylee Smith took the loss for the Lady Bears. Smith allowed eight hits and six runs over six innings, striking out three.
Leading Grayson County at the plate, Thorpe, Lindsay O'Neal and Bailey Snyder provided two hits apiece for the Lady Cougars.
Butler County enjoyed a diverse offensive attack. Aleace Hall, Tori McKinney and Olivia Jones each managed multiple hits for the Lady Bears. Hall went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Butler County in the hits column.
Butler County committed one error in the loss.
Grayson County thrived in the field, turning in an error-free performance.
Both Butler County and Grayson County will compete in the 12th District Softball Tournament in May.
