Bears blank Breckinridge County, 46-0

HARNED — Continuing to win, visiting Butler County blanked Breckinridge County 46-0 on Friday, Sept. 2. 

The Bears and Fighting Tigers met in a non-district high school football game.

Butler County set the tone early, reaching the endzone twice during the opening quarter. 

The Bears dominated throughout the first half to lead 39-0 at halftime. 

Carrying momentum over into the second half, Butler County added another touchdown after the intermission period to extend its lead to 46-0. 

Quarterback Garrett Phelps paced Butler County through the air, completing four of nine passes for 82 yards and one touchdown. 

Gage Beasley, Kyle Chambers, Keagen Grubb and Colton Dunnells each hauled in at least one reception for the Bears. Chambers was on the receiving end of Phelps' scoring pass. 

Butler County rushed 22 times for 208 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. Brody Hunt led Butler County on the ground, rushing four times for 70 yards. Following Hunt in Butler County's rushing attack, Keagen Grubb rushed nine times for 63 yards.

Reaching the endzone for Butler County, Gage Beasley rushed two times for 44 yards and one touchdown.

Dunnells rushed five times for 27 yards and two touchdowns in the Bears' shutout win.

Making an impact through the air and on the ground, Phelps added another rushing touchdown for the Bears. 

Providing a score defensively as Butler County won convincingly, Luke Laughing returned a fumble for a touchdown. 

Dunnells led Butler County's defensive effort, recording 11 tackles.

Ranking second in the defensive category for Butler County, Devin Poston and Logan Hargrove registered nine tackles apiece. 

Finding the endzone, Poston provided another touchdown for the Bears. 

Both Hunt and Laughing recorded an interception in the Bears' shutout win.  

Butler County is scheduled to host rival Grayson County on Friday, Sept. 9. Kickoff for the Butler County-Grayson County football game is set for 7 p.m. in Morgantown.
