Bears beat South Warren 87-60 in season opener

MORGANTOWN — Butler County pulled away to beat visiting South Warren 87-60 in its 2023-24 season opener on Monday, Nov. 27. 
Starting strong, Butler County outscored South Warren 21-13 in the first quarter.
The Bears led 36-24 at halftime and remained in control after the intermission period.
Extending its lead following the break, Butler County led 64-39 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Butler County featured five scorers, all of whom reached double figures. 
Ty Price poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Bears. Prior to the game, Price was recognized for breaking nine school records and shattering the single-season record for points with 1,000 during the 2022-23 campaign. 
Second behind Price in scoring for Butler County, Lawson Rice and Justin Castlen netted 17 points apiece.
Aiding Calvin Dockery-coached Butler County in its win, Briar Griffin scored 13 points and Trever Deweese netted 12 points. 
Butler County is scheduled to meet Massac County (Ill.) on a neutral court in the Marshall County Hoopfest on Thursday, Nov. 30. Tip-off for the Butler County-Massac County game is set for 8:30 p.m. at Marshall County High School.
