Bears beat McLean County for 20th win

MORGANTOWN — Notching its 20th win in the 2022-23 boys' high school basketball season, Butler County beat visiting McLean County 75-64 on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The Bears prevailed in a regular season finale. With the win, Butler County improved to 20-9. 

Starting strong, Butler County outscored McLean County 21-16 in the first quarter.

Extending its lead after the initial period, Butler County led 45-31 at halftime. 

Remaining out in the second half, Butler County led 58-50 at the end of the third quarter. 

Butler County shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the field in its winning effort. The Bears made seven of 18 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 38.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Butler County shot 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the free throw line. 

Ty Price led Butler County with a double-double, scoring a game-high 40 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Delivering another double-double for the Bears, Lawson Rice netted 16 points and claimed 11 rebounds.

Joining Price and Rice in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen added 10 points. 

Chipping in offensively, Trever Deweese (five points), Clayton Deweese (two points) and Luke Laughing (two points) accounted for the rest of Butler County's scoring. 

Butler County is set to meet Whitesville Trinity in the semifinals of the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament at Edmonson County High School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
