Bears beat Grayson County for district win

MORGANTOWN - Winning on its home floor, Butler County beat visiting Grayson County 52-46 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday night.
 
Much-improved Butler County claimed its third straight victory. 
Butler County moved to 2-2 in the 12th District with the win. 
With the loss, Grayson County dropped to 1-2 in the district. 
Butler County won after facing a two-point deficit at halftime. Grayson County led a 23-21 at the break.
 
Homestanding Butler County shot 70.8 percent from the free throw line in the winning effort. 
The Bears shot 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the field. Butler County finished 1-of-8 from 3-point range. 
 
Butler County used a balanced offensive attack to earn the district win. Jaden Hurt led the Bears with a team-high 13 points.
 
 
Parker Rice was the only other Butler County player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Rice added 10 points for the Bears. 
Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Justin Elms netted nine points. 
Leevi McMillin followed, adding eight points for the Bears. 
Rice led Butler County on the backboards, grabbing seven rebounds. 
Solomon Flener (five points), Jagger Henderson (three points), Brody Hunt (two points) and Macauley Hampton (two points) provided the additional scoring in Butler County's victory. 
Nolan Shartzer led Grayson County with a game-high 19 points. Shartzer was the only Grayson County player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Following Shartzer's leading performance for the Cougars, Spencer Sharp pushed in eight points while Q'Daryius McHenry added six points. 
McHenry led Grayson County on the backboards in the district battle, grabbing eight rebounds. 
Jaxon Higdon (five points), Hunter Tomes (four points), Josh Embry (two points) and Wyatt Schultz (two points) rounded out the Cougars' individual scoring. 
The Bears and Cougars split their annual 12th District boys' basketball regular-season series. 
Both Butler County and Grayson County will compete in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament in February.
