Bears beat Blazers in season opener, 79-47

MORGANTOWN — Winning convincingly, Butler County pulled away to beat the Bluegrass Blazers 79-47 in a boys' high school basketball season opener on Monday, Nov. 28.

Butler County forced the Bluegrass Blazers — a homeschool team from Oakland — to play from behind throughout the season opener. 

The Bears gradually pulled away from the visiting team. 

Butler County led 30-23 at halftime. 

Stretching its lead shortly after the intermission period, Butler County led 56-41 at the end of the third quarter. 

Newcomer Ty Price led Butler County to the win, pouring in a game-high 32 points for the Bears. 

Turning in another solid performance for Butler County, Lawson Rice netted 26 points.

Talented young players, Price and Rice are sophomores. 

Accompanying Price and Rice in double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen added 10 points.

Rounding out Butler County's individual scoring, Kolton Hudson and Trever Deweese chipped in eight points and three points, respectively. 

 

In a quick turnaround, Butler County is scheduled to visit Russellville for its next matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Tip-off for the Butler County-Russellville boys' basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
