Bears Baseball

On Monday, the Bears played host to a strong Franklin Simpson team from the 4th region.  The Bears came out battling and led 2-1 going into the 3rd inning.  Franklin rallied to take a 4-3 lead into the 7th inning.  Then the wheels came off defensively for the Bears as the Wildcats plated 9 runs on their way to a 13-3 victory.   Blake Graham pitched an excellent game for the Bears, giving the team an excellent chance to upset the Wildcats.   But the bats were just not strong enough on this night as Cody Casteel and Rex Henderson collected the only 2 base hits for the Bears.

On Wednesday the Bears played host to Grayson County.   Senior Caleb Hunt once again provided excellent pitching going 5 2/3 innings allowing only 2 earned runs.  Defensively, the Bears played better than previous game committing only 1 error but offensively, the bats remained quiet as they collected only 4 hits as a team (C. Hunt 2, C. Parker, E. Phelps) and fell to the regular season district champion Cougars, 8-0.

On Friday, the Bears participated in the Cancer Classic at Warren Central High School against the Russellville Panthers.  Rex Henderson got the starting nod for the Bears and put in 4 solid innings giving up 4 runs.   Offensively, the Bears were the victim of hard luck as they hit the ball hard several times right at a capable Panther defense.  The Bears did manage 4 base hits (Henderson, Hunt, Phelps and T. Parker) but fell to the Panthers 7-0.  The remaining games scheduled in the tournament on Saturday were cancelled due to bad weather.

The Bears will play host to Logan County and Muhlenberg County on Monday and Tuesday night before taking to the road on Thursday against Russellville and again Friday at Glasgow.  The Bears will conclude their regular season on Saturday, hosting Webster County.
