Bears and Lady Bears fall at Grayson

Bears drop district game to Cougars 


LEITCHFIELD — Butler County couldn't battle back from behind as Grayson County pulled away to win 81-50 in a 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 9. 

Grayson County edged Butler County 13-11 in the opening quarter and quickly separated itself during the second period. 

The Cougars led 42-24 at halftime and remained in control after the break. 

Grayson County led 68-35 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County shot 37.5 percent (18-of-48) from the field. The Bears made seven of 25 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 28.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Butler County shot 70.0 percent (seven-of-10) from the free throw line. 

Cooper Embry paced Butler County, scoring a team-high 13 points for the Bears. Accompanying Embry in double figures for Butler County, Curtis Murphy scored 11 points, and Carson Davis netted 10 points. 

Finishing in single digits, Nicholas Francisco (five points), Will Amos (four points), Elijah Ferrell (three points), Jett Johnson (three points) and Felix Francisco (one point) accounted for Butler County's additional scoring. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Grayson County for another 12th District boys' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 30.


Butler County falls to Grayson County in district game 

 

LEITCHFIELD — Butler County faltered late as Grayson County pulled away to win 45-35 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 9. 

Grayson County carried a lead out of each quarter. The Lady Cougars edged the Lady Bears 9-8 in the opening period.

Grayson County entered halftime ahead 21-15 and maintained a lead midway through the second half.

The Lady Cougars led 32-26 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Butler County was held to 14 field goals, two of which were three-pointers. The Lady Bears connected on five of 11 free throw attempts. 

Ava Wilson paced Butler County, scoring a game-high 19 points for the Lady Bears.

Along with Wilson, Ann Marie Skaggs (seven points), Carly Cardwell (five points) and Madison Jones (four points) provided scoring for Butler County in the district matchup.

Butler County is scheduled to host Grayson County for another 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Jan. 30.
