Bears 62 McLean Co. 24

   The Butler Co. Bears improved to 6-2 overall  on the season with  a key district win over the McLean Co. Cougars 62-24 this past Friday night on the road at McLean Co. HS.


      The Bears got on the board on its second possession of the night.  Rex Henderson intercepted a McLean Co. pass returning it across midfield.  Four plays later senior running back Ian Embry scored on a twenty yard run, the Logan Richardson kick was good; Bears led 7-0 with 4:45 left in the first quarter.
      McLean Co. responded going eleven plays to tie the game 7-7.  The Bears on their next drive took advantage of a short kick and field position. On second and eight, a Henderson to Brenden Shanklin fifty-one yard touchdown pass put the Bears up; the Richardson kick good 14-7 with 10:36 in the second quarter.  The Cougars roared right back on a nine play drive but had to settle for a field goal; 14-10 Bears.
              The Bears next drive QB Henderson found Blake Graham for a twenty-seven yard touchdown pass, the kick was no good. Bears led 20-10 with 4:16 left in the half. The Bears defense stiffened; and in punt formation the Cougars snap sailed over the punters head into the end zone; senior Jacob Hixenbaugh was able to recover the fumble in the end zone for another Bears touchdown. The two point conversion good. Bears now led 28-10 with 1:32 left still in the first half of play.


           The Bears would get the ball back again, this time Shanklin from his safety position intercepted a Cougar pass. A quick strike pass of forty-three yards from Henderson to Graham gave that Bears a first and goal at the two yard line.  With only :23 seconds remaining in the half Henderson hit Shanklin for a two yard touchdown pass, kick good. Bears led at the half 35-10.
           The Bears came out of the locker room  in the second half and wasted no time, and took only three plays to make the score 42-10 on another Henderson to Graham touchdown pass.


              But the Cougars would grab some momentum scoring the next two times making the score 42-24. The Bears defense then regrouped and shut the Cougars down the remainder of the night. The Bears offensively would go on to score three more times. With 4:23 remaining in the third quarter of play, Ian Embry scored on a one yard plunge, pushing the score to 49-24.  With the Cougars being held in check by the Bears defense, the Bears again would call on Embry who scored his third rushing touchdown of the night from eleven yards out. Kick good Bears led 56-24 with 10:56 left in the fourth quarter. The final score of the night was Henderson’s fifth touchdown pass of the night to sophomore Daltyn Havens good for seventeen yards; kick good final score would read 62-24.
