BCMS temporarily evacuated after written bomb threat

Butler County Middle School was evacuated earlier today after school officials discovered what appeared to be a written bomb threat in a student restroom.  At approximately 8:45 a.m. a student reported a bomb threat that was written on the wall of the restroom.  The incident was investigated by school officials.  Superintendent Scott Howard and Director of Transportation Jeff Jennings were also on the scene to assist.

According to BCMS Principal Tim Freeman, a student admitted writing the threat in the bathroom and that it was done as a joke.  As a precaution, all students were temporarily evacuated from the building as part of the school's safety plan to deal with such threats.   After the investigation was complete and the building deemed safe, students were readmitted and classes resumed at approximately 9:50 a.m.

"Because student safety is our number one priority, all threats are taken seriously," said Principal Freeman and Superintendent Howard, in a joint statement.  "The building was evacuated and checked by school officials and law enforcement personnel."

To inform parents, Principal Tim Freeman sent a one-call out from the middle school explaining the situation and describing the school's response.

Nothing was found and the building was cleared.

More information will be posted as it is made available
