An estimated 14,000 students, educators and parents converged on Lexington for the ninth annual Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Championship on April 12th.

P-12 students from across the state came to show what they know and are doing with technology in various STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) fields.  Many demonstrated a wide variety career ready skills as they participated in nearly 50 different STLP competition areas.

STLP students create projects, products or services as part of the program and demonstrate their learning by competing in various event categories, including instructional, technical or community development projects; digital content creation such as digital art, photography, design, programming, app development and robotics; and technical services, like student help desk, network engineering, and wireless applications. Students with the best projects, products and services were invited to compete at the STLP State Championship.

Over 550 STLP Projects were on display in Heritage Hall; each striving to be selected as a Best in State winner.  Elsewhere, almost 300 Digital Product finalists were scored to find the 1st and 2nd place winners for each of 17 different STEAM related categories. Winners by grade division (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) in each competition category were recognized during the STLP Award Ceremony broadcast live from the floor of Rupp Arena.  With 502 schools from 129 districts competing, the event was open to the public.  STLP uses project-based learning to empower student learning and achievement through the student creation of technology-based solutions to school and community needs.

Butler County Middle School had the following winners:

Techzillaz (Technical Showcase) – Hope Phelps, Gracie Elms, Graci Leach
