BCMS squares-off with Muhlenberg South

Basketball action was hard to come by last week with it being a shortened school week due to Thanksgiving Break as well as College View out of Owensboro cancelling on the Bears Monday night.  That left the Bears with only one game for the week, but it was quite a game.  BCMS visited the Suns of Muhlenberg South on their home court on Tuesday night for what they thought would be a tough battle gauging from last years’ match ups with them and the loss of a key player from last year, Rex Henderson.  However, Butler County’s 8th grade team had a little proving to do and that is exactly what they did.  They charged out of the gate with fire in their eyes and played some exceptional team basketball.  Blake Graham had no problems finding the goal  and scored 13 of the Bears 17 points in the first quarter giving them a 17-10 lead.  The Bears didn’t stop there though.  Bailey Anderson chimed in the second quarter from behind the 3 point arch to help the Bears go into the locker room at halftime with a 29-15 lead.  The Bears  showed their athleticism throughout the entire game but the highlight of the night was possibly Kyle Casey putting up some unbelievable rebounding stats.  The 8th grade team went on to win this one with a score of 58-47.  Top scorer for the Bears was Blake Graham with 24 points.  Also scoring in double digits was Bailey Anderson with 16, and Kyle Casey with 10.  Ty Burden contributed 4.   Kaleb Casey and Caleb Hunt each had 2.

The 7th grade team didn’t have such luck.  The team’s defense has stepped up but they continue to struggle to find ways to score on the offensive end.  The Bears were only able to put up 18 points on the night which wasn’t enough against their opponent, the Suns,  who scored 47 points.   Scoring for the Bears was Caleb Beasley with 7, Gage Ward 4, Brennan Grubb 3, Skyler Moore 2, and Andrew Henry 2.

The Bears will have another chance to face the Suns at home on November 27th.
