With several games already under its belt, the Butler County Middle School Softball team is off to a strong start to its 2019 season, compiling a 7-2-1 mark on the season.    

The Bears “A” team played Franklin-Simpson (scrimmage) to a 3-3 tie on August 5 before defeating Drakes Creek 4-0 on August 8.  BCMS beat Russellville 4-3 and Allen County-Scottsville 8-4 in a triangle on August 10 at Allen County.

Following a 6-2 loss at Logan on August 12, BCMS rattled off four consecutive wins:  13-1 vs. Ohio County; 19-10 vs. Russellville; 17-0 vs. Marshall County; and 9-0 vs. Christian.  The Bears took a tough 10-0 loss on August 19 at Warren East.  

The BCMS “B” team has also enjoyed success after losing 14-7 at Franklin-Simpson (scrimmage) in their first game.  The team picked up a 9-8 over Drakes Creek, lost 5-4 to Logan County, beat Ohio County 10-0 and Russellville 12-2, before dropping a 10-5 decision to Warren East.

7th graders (L to R) are Skylar Schroeder, Jordyn Embry, Lydia Brown, and Jaycee Crank.

6th grade players (L to R) are Parker Willoughby, Isabella Embry, Isabella Easley, Taylor Smith, Karrington Hunt, Tinslea Belcher, and Miley Franzell.

Coaches (L to R) are Brent Clark, John Embry, Amy Rogers, and Colten Cardwell.

“We have a great group of players and a good combination between new ones with a lot of experience and older ones who have been in the program for a couple years now,” said Head Coach John Embry.  “All are working hard to get better every day and their parents are doing a great job supporting our program.”
