BCMS Football splits with Muhlenberg

The BCMS Bears Football traveled to Muhlenberg Middle School on Tuesday, August 14 for their second game of the regular season.  8th grade moved to 2-0 with an impressive win over the Mustangs by a score of 30-14.

On the Bears' first defensive set of the game, Jake McKee intercepted the Mustang’s pass and ran the ball in to put the first 6 points on the scoreboard.  The Bears were able to put together another successful offensive set in the first half to give them 14 points at halftime.  However, the Mustangs were able to answer on each occasion and the score was tied 14-14 at the half.

It wasn't until the second half that the Bears started to pull away and show their dominance. With the help of a pep talk from the coaching staff at halftime, the Bears defense stepped it up a notch and did not allow the Mustangs to score in the second half. The Bears attempted four onside kicks throughout the game and were successful on three different attempts.  William Jones not only found his hitting game after halftime, but he was also responsible for both Bear touchdowns in that half.

7th grade didn't come out as well.  Their offensive woes continued from last week.  Although they created several good offensive plays, they just couldn't get a series together that resulted in a touchdown.  For the most part, the Bears 7th grade defense was pretty solid, but the Mustangs were able to break away on two different occasions to score.  The 7th grade ended the night with a loss of 0-14.  Even though the team came up short at Muhlenberg, Coach Flener is not concerned. He says they are young and inexperienced for the most part, having several players join the team this week, and feels confident they will be very competitive as the season continues.
