BCMS Football picks up wins at McLean County

Both 7th and 8th grade football teams traveled to McLean County Thursday, August 9, for their season opener.  7th grade kicked off at 5:30 in what proved to be a hard-fought battle.  Neither team was able to put any points on the scoreboard during regulation due to some impressive defense played by both teams.  The Bears had some good plays but struggled to string enough together at one time to get into the endzone.  It wasn't until overtime that Matthew Jones forced his way into the endzone with a handoff from quarterback Kyle Chambers which was made possible by a crucial block from Blake Tomes.  The Cougars had a chance to score as well but the Bears defense shut them down.  7th grade won 6-0.

BCMS 8th grade Bears were up next.  Coming off of the heels of a very successful 8th grade team last year, they felt like they had something to prove and that is exactly what they did.  The Bears elected to begin the game with an onside kick which was recovered by Trentin Inglis.  The Bears offense charged down the field and scored easily with a handoff to Landon Phelps from quarterback Jake McKee for a 35 yard run into the endzone. The Bears offense was worn out at halftime because the Bears stellar defense forced the Cougars to cough up the ball almost everytime they touched it, keeping the Bears offense on the field most of the first half.

The Bears scored again within the first couple of minutes of the second half when William Jones found the sideline and never looked back for a 65 yard run.  This gave the Bears a large enough lead to force a running clock.  The Bears went on to win this one in dominating fashion with a score of 50-6.

The Bears will traveled to Muhlenberg County Tuesday, August 14, to face off against the Mustangs.  Kick off was at 5:30.
