BCMS Football Moves to 3-0 on the Season

It was quite a night at Hancock County Middle School on Tuesday, August 21st as BCMS fans made the long trip for some football action. The Bears did not disappoint. Both 7th and 8th grade teams came away with well-deserved wins.

In the first quarter of the 7th grade game, Jay Peralta ran the ball into the end zone putting the Bears on the scoreboard early.  Lonnie Phelps was able to complete the 2 point conversion giving the Bears an 8-0 lead. And, as far as scoring goes, that was it thanks to some impressive defense played by the Bears.  They were able to successfully shut Hancock down on every single possession.

Unlike the 7th grade game, the 8th grade game remained scoreless the entire first half due to some extremely tough defense played by the Bears.  The Hornets were the ones feeling the sting of some tough defensive hits dealt by Devin Posten and William Jones.  The Bears had a couple of opportunities to score in the first half, but due to some fumbles were unable to do so.  Things heated up in the second half with the Hornets coming out and scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter to make the score 12-0 with 6 seconds left in the quarter.  Being down two touchdowns and only a quarter left to play didn't seem to bother the Bears.  After some strong encouragement from Coach Flener, Landon Phelps ran the kickoff back for a touchdown and William Jones ran in the 2-point conversion to end the quarter.  Phelps was responsible for putting a final touchdown on the scoreboard for the Bears in the fourth quarter.  Keagen Grubb's onside kick attempt was good and then he jumped on the ball to regain possession for the Bears with about 1:30 left on the clock to secure the victory 14-12.  It was apparent from the smiles on the coaches' and players' faces after the game that everyone was pleased with the effort put forth by every player to ensure a team win.
