BCMS Football

Butler County Middle School football was back in action last week with games against Edmonson County and Russellville.  On Tuesday night, the Wildcats of Edmonson County traveled to Butler County to take on the Bears.  The 7th-grade team fell to the Wildcats by a score of 10-0.  The Bears continue to struggle offensively.  Defense continues to be the 7th grades strong point.

The 8th-grade team, on the other hand, had no problem putting points on the board.   Several Bears were able to connect for touchdowns.  Although the Bears are a dominating force offensively, their defense is quite impressive, keeping the Wildcats from getting on the scoreboard. They won with a score of 38-0.

On Thursday night, the Bears traveled to Russellville for a much-anticipated game with the Panthers.   The 8th-grade teams squared off first in what proved to be a nail biter from start to finish.  The Panthers put 6 points on the scoreboard within the first 8 seconds of the game on the first play from scrimmage.  The Bears, although in unfamiliar territory (finding themselves behind for the first time all season), did not let that bother them.  They marched down the field and within six plays found the end zone themselves with a 50-yard pass from Solomon Flener to Jagger Henderson.  The Bears led at the half 14-6.  The second half was much like the first half with each team trading touchdowns.  The only difference between both teams was the Bears were only able to convert on one two point conversion which would end up costing them the win.  When the final horn sounded the Panthers had outscored the Bears by a score of 28-26.

After the game, Coach Flener stated, “I am very proud of our boys.  Russellville is a great team.  It was good for us to see some tough competition.  This will only make us better as we prepare for State.”  After a rough 8th grade loss, the 7th grade finished out the night.  They must have had revenge on their minds as they took the field because they came out on fire and did not let up the entire game.  Landon Phelps ran a 60-yard touchdown pass on the Bears first offensive play of the game.  William Jones scored on the Bears’ last possession to put away the Panthers.  They also looked impressive defensively forcing several fumbles and one interception by Will Embry.  The Bears finished with a big victory of 28-0.
