BCMS Cheerleaders take top honors in Region 3
BCMS Cheerleaders traveled to Owensboro Saturday night for regional competition and came home victorious. The cheer squad won in their division and are regional champs for the second year in a row. The squad will head to the State Competition on January 11th at Eastern Kentucky University.
BCMS Cheer Coach Amy Smith-Thomas, who has led the middle school cheer program for the past 13 years, is excited about the regional championship and is proud of her girls.
“We are a young squad so it has been a rebuilding year. These young ladies have been working hard since June. We put a great amount of time into practicing each week," said Smith-Thomas. My girls are a dedicated and talented squad. Now, we have to focus on state and keep making improvements at each practice. ”
Smith-Thomas's cheer teams have been undefeated in surrounding competitons for the past five years and she is quick to credit others for their work in building a strong cheer program.
"I am grateful to several people for their support and cooperation," said Smith-Thomas. "From my assistants - Audrey Pharris and Tasha Givens - to the cheer parents, school administrators, high school cheer coaches, and the athletic directors - we all work together as a team and that is what makes a program successful,” added Smith-Thomas.
