BCMS Celebrates: Operation Preparation – Career and College Readiness.

During the week of March 24th-28th, Butler County Middle School has been celebrating Operation Preparation – Career and College Readiness.  Each year the state of Kentucky, encourages schools across the state to bring awareness to career and college options for students after high school.

The week started off Monday with the students walking into the school to see the lobby and the halls decorated with college pennants and college information.  The theme for the day was “Your Future is Bright” students and faculty wore neon.

 

Then on Tuesday, the theme was “Dress Up Like Your Future Self”.  Students dressed up in attire from careers they aspire to for the future and teachers dressed up like careers from their doors.  The Youth Service Center also hosted an 8th grade Career Day where many local community members (Shane Wells – Agriculture, Diane Dyer - Arts, AV Tech & Communication, Melissa Embry - Business Management, Enaleen Smith – Construction, Jan Black – Education, Dianna Ray – Finance, Mayor Linda Keown – Government, Angie Easley, RN - Health Science, Darrell Deweese - Hospitality & Tourism, Dr. Amy Hood - Human Services, Jimmy Arnold - Information Technology, Travis McIntosh - Law Enforcement, Robert Johnson – Manufacturing, Duane Curry – Marketing, Kassidy Cardwell - Science, Engineering  & Math, and Morgantown Freight came to talk to students about the their career within the state’s 16 Career Clusters. 

 

On Wednesday, students were able to show their college school spirit by wearing their favorite college apparel.  There was also a bulletin board that was put up to show all of the BCMS faculty’s education experience. 

 

Thursday was a big day for BCMS. The theme was “Run Towards Your Future”.  During 6th period, there was a Student/Faculty game with special guest WKU’s Big Red.  Half-time entertainment by Big Red and the BCMS Cheerleaders.  Our officials were NBES Principal Mr. Jeff Jennings and MES Principal Mr. Greg Woodcock.  Scorekeeper was Mr. Dennis McCrocklin and announcer Mr. John Embry.  The Student Team’s coach was Mrs. Holly Elmore. 

 

The week concluded on Friday with the theme of “Hats On to Your Future”.  The teachers and students have been working on decorating their doors with a career of the teacher’s choice.  Judging was Friday and the winners are…..  Most Informative Mrs. Pam Fazel and Most Creative/Decorative Mrs. Robbie Johnson.
