BCMS Boys Basketball Underway

Butler County Middle School boys basketball began their season with a busy start last week under the direction of new head coach, Chris House, and new assistant coach, Adam Schartzer.  Both 7th and 8th grade teams got off to a rocky start on their home season opener against McLean County.  7th grade lost with a score of 46-32 and 8th grade dropped their game with a score of 46-37.  Caleb Beasley had a good showing for the 7th grade team by putting 13 points in the basket.  Also getting on the scoreboard were Skyler Moore with 7, Patton Allen 4, Gage Ward 3, Brennan Grubb 2, Neil Bewley 2, and Andrew Henry 1.  The 8th grade team saw two Bears get into double digits.  Blake Graham scored 22 points and Bailey Anderson contributed 10.  Kyle Casey with 3 points and Caleb Hunt with 2 were the only other 8th grade players to make it into the scorebook.

The Bears hit the road Monday night for their first away game to face archrival, Grayson County.  7th grade struggled on the offensive end of the floor and could only score 20 points collectively to lose with a score of 43-20.  Scoring for the 7th grade team was Patton Allen 6, Brennan Grubb 4, and Caleb Beasley, Skyler Moore, Gage Ward, Neil Bewley, and Andrew Henry all with 2 each.  The 8th grade, being left with a bad taste in their mouths from the season opening loss, came to play ball.  They charged out with improved attitudes and took an early lead and never looked back.  They won easily with a score of 47-18.  Blake Graham led all scoring with 15.  Also scoring was Bailey Anderson 10, Kyle Casey 9, Kaleb Casey 8, and Ty Burden 5.

The Bears ended the week at home with games against Edmonson on Tuesday and Muhlenberg North on Thursday.  Tuesday night's game against Edmonson was a tough one for the 7th grade team that came out very sloppy in the first half and was plagued with turnovers.  Coach House's talk at halftime must have sparked the team because they outscored the Wildcats in the second half but it just wasn't enough.  They lost the game 40 - 26.  Bears were led in scoring by Caleb Beasley with 9.  Other Bears scoring were Patton Allen 6, Gage Ward 6, Brennan Grubb 4, and Skyler Moore 1.  The 8th grade team shot out to a quick lead in the first quarter on their game with Edmonson County in what looked like was going to be a run away game but the Wildcats fought back to cut the Bear lead to only 1 by halftime.  The second half was tight throughout, but the Bears managed to pull out the win, 44-41.  Scoring for the Bears was Baylee Anderson 13, Blake Graham 11, Kaleb Casey 8, Kyle Casey 7, Ty Burden 3, and Kaleb Hunt 2.

The final game of the week, Butler vs. Muhlenberg North, proved to be a much better start for the 7th grade team who went to the locker room at halftime leading 14-11.  However, North came out the second half and took control of the game.  The Bears lost 42-25.  Caleb Beasley and Gage Ward each scored 8 for the Bears.  Also scoring were Skyler Moore 5, Brennan Grubb 3, and Lucas Flener 1.  The Bears' 8th grade team played a close first half with the Stars having a 4 point lead at halftime.  The Bears came alive in the second half and ran the floor to find a wide open Bailey Anderson who contributed 18 of the Bears 56 points.  They won 56-44.  Blake Graham had a hot hand as well and was 7 for 9 from the free throw line.  He was the Bears leading scorer with 25.  Also scoring was Kyle Casey 6, Kaleb Casey 4, Ty Burden 2, and Brennan Grubb 1.
