BCMS Bears Cut the Nets at Grayson County- GRVC Champions

Butler County sported a large fan section on Monday night at Grayson County Middle School to cheer on their very own BCMS Bears in the Championship game of the GRVC Tournament.  Excitement loomed in the crowd as the ball was tipped off in anticipation of some great basketball action.  The Bears had faced off two times earlier in the season against Monday night’s foe, the Muhlenberg North Stars.  The Bears had come out both times previously as the victor, but both contests were close; and everyone has heard the old adage that it is hard to beat the same team three times in one season.  With all of this weighing on the Bears and their coaches, Chris House and Adam Schartzer, nerves were a little on edge as the Bears took the floor.   Coach House knew the Stars would be prepared for the Bears and that this would be no easy contest but the Bears had done a little preparing themselves, and this game turned out to be all it was expected to be……… a battle to the finish.  This Bears came out early and took a small lead but the Stars charged back and it was neck and neck at halftime with the Bears holding on to a slim 2 point lead, 24 – 22.

To start the second half, Blake Graham let the Stars know who was going to control the last half of the game by scoring 2 quick points.  It wasn’t long though before the Bears faced some “technical” difficulty causing the Stars to get 4 free throws and possession of the ball.  This shift in momentum also created a shift on the scoreboard, giving the Stars a 1 point lead.  The Bears didn’t let that discourage them; however, and quickly regained possession of the ball and the scoreboard.  In the end, the Bears just proved to be too much for the Stars to handle and went on the win the GRVC Championship  with a score of 51 – 43.  Blake Graham had a amazing game, giving the Bears 27 points.  Kyle Casey contributed 8, Bailey Anderson 7, Kaleb Casey 4, Caleb Hunt 3, and Ty Burden 2.

After cutting the nets and heading back to Morgantown, the Bears were greeted to a police escort in to town.  Coach House and the Bears would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the season, and especially during the tournament.
