BCMS 43 Ohio Co. 26
It was a short but sweet basketball week for the BCMS Bears as they prepared for Thanksgiving Break. Due to the threat of snowy weather the Bears’ Tuesday night game against Muhlenberg South had to be cancelled, but the real story was Monday night’s game against the Ohio County Eagles.

The eighth grade Bears team was hungry for a victory after playing several extremely close games to within a couple points but not being able to come over the top with a win. Coach Donaldson has been tweaking the team throughout the season and focusing during practice the last few weeks on playing good defense, blocking out, and rebounding.

Hard work pays off and the Bears came out Monday night determined to do a better job on the boards, and that is exactly what they did. Caleb Beasley played a great first half for the Bears both offensively and defensively. The Bears did seem to lack a little focus during the first half and went in to halftime only leading the Eagles 19 – 14.

Coach Donaldson must have lit a fire under the boys in the locker room because they came out the second half and took care of business. Successful run out plays by a quick Brennan Grubb led to several easy layups, but the story of the night was the outstanding rebounding of Caleb Beasley, Will Moore, Easton Phelps, and Patton Allen. Will Moore and Brennan Grubb each scored in double figures for the Bears with 17 and 15 each. Also scoring for the Bears was Caleb Beasley with 5, Skyler Moore 3, Patton Allen 2, and Austin Burden 1. The Bears got their first win in dominate fashion with a score of 43 – 26.

The seventh grade team did not have quite the same outcome but fought a tough battle just the same. The team has shown much progress since the beginning of the year, especially on the defensive end of the floor but ball handling and scoring still seem to plague them. The seventh grade team lost a rough one with a score of 54 – 25. Scoring for the Bears was Justin Elms with 8, Parker Rice 6, Colton Bratcher 4, Jaden Hurt 2, Keaton Diaz 2, Trevor Dockery 2, Matthew Gill 1, Wyatt Dean 1, and Sage Graham 1.

The Bears will be at home this week on Monday night playing Edmonson County and Thursday night playing McLean County. Game times each night are 5:30.
