BCHS's Elmore tops bridge-building field; Green River School wins H.S. Division at BRIMS

Tristan Elmore, a sophomore at Butler County High School, placed first at the 2012 BRIMS Regional Bridge Building Championships sponsored by Scott & Murphy, Inc. and Stupp Bridge Company on March 10. The students from the Green River School, also part of the Butler County School District, won first place overall in the High School Division of the competition.

Three students from the Green River School placed individually in the competition taking 4th, 8th, and 9th overall to lead the team. The school had 14 entries into the competition this year.

Elmore placed first overall in the High School Division out of over 50 qualified bridges. The bridge Tristan designed had a mass of 20.6 g and held 50.7 lbs. Tristan's bridge had an efficiency of 1,116.5. Tristan is no stranger to taking top prize in the competition; he took top honors in the competition his eighth grade year in the Middle School division and top prize last year in the high school division as a freshman.

For winning the competition, Tristan has qualified for the 2012 International Bridge Building Competition, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 5. Tristan is the son of Scott and Felicia Elmore of Morgantown.
