MORGANTOWN — Butler County is competing in the 2024 high school volleyball season. The Lady Bears dropped matches to Warren Central, Ohio County and Edmonson County during the first week of the 2024 high school volleyball season, which opened on Monday, Aug. 19.

Warren Central 2, Butler County 1: Warren Central outlasted host Butler County 2-1 in a high school volleyball season opener on Monday, Aug. 19. 

Emmie Hawkins (1 kill, 1 dig), Hadlee Renfrow (2 digs), Megan Clark (5 kills, 1 dig), Isabella-Marie Kelley (1 kill, 6 digs), Miley Franzell (3 kills, 1 block, 3 digs, 1 service ace), Evana Martin (1 kill, 2 assists, 8 digs, 4 service aces), Jenelle Kimmel (4 kills, 1 assist), Elivia Heard (2 digs, 4 service aces), Samantha Johnson (3 kills, 9 assists, 5 digs, 1 service ace), Paisley Johnson (2 digs, 1 service ace) and Makenna Blanchard each contributed for Butler County during the season opener.  

Ohio County 3, Butler County 0: Butler County pushed late but couldn't battle back from behind as host Ohio County won 3-0 in an early-season high school volleyball match on Tuesday, Aug. 20. 

Emmie Hawkins (2 kills, 2 assists, 2 digs), Megan Clark (5 kills, 6 digs), Samantha Johnson (10 assists, 4 digs), Isabella-Marie Kelley (1 kill, 4 digs, 1 service ace), Miley Franzell (1 kill, 1 block, 1 assist, 2 service aces), Jenelle Kimmel (3 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs), Makenna Blanchard (9 digs), Elivia Heard (2 kills, 1 assist, 6 digs, 1 service ace), Evana Martin (3 kills, 16 digs) and Hadlee Renfrow (1 dig) each produced for Butler County during the match.

Butler County 3, Edmonson County 0: Visiting Edmonson County shut out Butler County 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-18) in a 12th District volleyball match on Thursday, Aug. 22. 

Megan Clark (4 digs, 1 service ace), Emmie Hawkins (1 kill), Samantha Johnson (2 blocks, 7 assists, 6 digs, 2 service aces), Madison Jones (3 kills, 1 block, 1 dig), Isabella-Marie Kelley (6 digs), Miley Franzell (2 kills, 1 block, 3 digs, 1 service ace), Evana Martin (1 assist, 2 digs, 2 service aces), Jenelle Kimmel (2 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig), Elivia Heard (1 kill, 4 digs) and Makenna Blanchard (3 digs) each made an impact for the Lady Bears.  

Butler County is scheduled to visit Grayson County for another 12th District match on Monday, Aug. 26.

Three Butler County players named to KVCA Preseason Watch List

MORGANTOWN — Samantha Johnson, Isabella-Marie Kelley and Evana Martin represent Butler County on the 2024 KVCA Preseason Watch List.

The Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association released the 2024 KVCA Preseason Watch List on Tuesday, Aug. 20. 

Johnson is a junior setter.

Kelley is a freshman libero/defensive specialist.

Martin is a junior libero/defensive specialist.

Players from each of the state's 16 regions were named to the 2024 KVCA Preseason Watch List.
