BCHS Volleyball 9-5

Butler County Lady Bears Volleyball team picked up their 9th win of the season Tuesday night by defeating Frederick Fraise in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-19. This was the second time the two teams have played each other this year with Butler winning both matches.  Even though the Lady Bears did not play their best, they found a way to win. Good teams do just that.

The JV squad was not so fortunate, losing in three sets, 17-21, 21-16, and 14-21.  Passing seemed to be a problem for the girls all night.  The girls fought hard and gave a good effort, but came up a little short.  The JV record is now 5-11.

Thursday night the Lady Bears traveled to Whitesville to face Trinity in F/JV/Varsity matches.  The freshman team played well but lost in three sets, 14-21, 21-19, and 19-21.  In the first set Trinity took the lead and never looked back.  Set two started out much the same way, but Butler would not go away easily.  Down 18-12 the girls battled back to win the set.  The third set also saw BCHS fall behind early then come roaring back, but this time it was not meant to be as Trinity held the Lady Bears off for the victory. The freshman team now has a 3-2 record.

The second match saw the JV team play Trinity tough in the first set.  Autumn Gidcumb had several nice serves and Megan Blunk added some “kills” to keep the game close before falling 16-21.  In the second set Whitesville was more than the Lady Bears could handle winning easily 8-21.  The JV team has two games left in their season, Monday at Barren County and Thursday at home vs Todd County.

Trinity is one of the best teams in the 3rd region and they showed it Thursday night defeated Butler in three straight sets, 25-16, 25-11, and 25-13.  The Lady Bears played much better than the score indicated.  Hannah Whittinghill was very active and had some spectacular “kills” and blocks.  Trinity made very few mistakes and capitalized on “free balls”.  Up next for the 9-5 Lady Bears is a “pool play” tournament at Metcalfe County on Saturday, Tuesday at Barren County, and Thursday night hosting Todd County for senior night, the last regular game of the season.
