BCHS Volleyball 6-4

On Tuesday night the Lady Bears hosted Barren County in a freshman/JV/Varsity volleyball match.  Freshmen girls got things started off right defeating the Trojanetts in two straight sets by scores of 21-16 and 21-18.  The first set ended up in a closer score than it really was as the Lady Bears jumped out to a big lead early behind strong serves from Autumn Gidcumb.  Barren County had no answer for the heat she was bringing.  The second set was close the entire way with Butler finding a way to pull it out in the end.  This was the third match for the freshman team, who are now 2-1.
The JV squad followed with a good effort that came up short, falling to Barren County 16-21 and 14-21.  Several girls saw playing time as Coach Minton is seeing improvements from the team.  The JV will be playing in a tournament in Bowling Green on Saturday, September 8th, at Ephriam White Parks & Rec.  The Lady Bears will face several teams, including Warren East, Webster County, Allen County, and Paducah Tillman.
The varsity girls got off to a good start in the first set, but faded quickly losing 21-25.  In the second set Barren took control early and never let up winning easily 25-14.  The Lady Bears seemed flat and had did not have the energy they normally do.  Basic passing and serving were the main problem of the night.  With the loss their record is now 6-3.
Thursday night the girls traveled to Leitchfield to take on the Grayson County Lady Cougars. Freshmen girls picked up another win to push their record to 3-1.  Scores were 18-21, 21-19, and 21-7.  The first two were true battles with Butler taking control in the third set behind Abby Docker’s and Autumn Gidcumb’s serves.  The team played well and worked together for a victory.
The Lady Bears were not so fortunate in the JV match, losing 14-21 and 11-21.  Grayson County took the lead early and never looked back. Several of Butler County fans traveled to support the girls and it is greatly appreciated. Even with the support the varsity team also came up on the short end, losing in three straight sets 14-25, 21-25, and 15-25.  The loss dropped the girl’s record to 6-4, 1-3 in district play. The jv and varsity team need to work on communication and coverage to be more successful according to coaches.  Next week the Lady Bears face Caverna at home on Tuesday and Edmonson County on Thursday in Brownsville.  The game Tuesday will be broadcast on The New Q 101.5 at approximately 6:30 pm.
