BCHS Volleyball 5-1

The Butler County Lady Bears Volleyball team continued their winning streak Tuesday night by defeating Caverna.  In the first set the Lady Bears played good and were consistent.  Hannah Whittinghill and Autumn Gidcumb showed their serving skills were too much for Caverna to handle.  Solid interior passing and good sets helped Delaina Flener complete several spikes as the Lady Bears won the first set easily 25-7.  Set two was a different story. Caverna kept the score close and scraped their way to a win, 25-20.  The second set victory was what the Cavilers needed to build their confidence.  A close fought third set saw the Lady Bears gradually pull away at the end for a 25-19 victory. The girl’s improved to 5-0, which ties a school record for most wins in a season.

The JV team was also victorious Tuesday night defeating Caverna in two straight sets, 21-17 and 21-19.  The girls played a tight first set, but took the lead midway through the set and never looked back.  In the second set the Lady Bears fell behind and trailed most of the way.  Down 16-19 Coach Flener called a timeout and the girls rallied scoring five straight for a dramatic come from behind victory.  Grace Embry was able to get some big serves in that enabled the girls to pick up their second win in three games.  Coaches were pleased with the lady’s effort and not giving up on each other.

Thursday the Lady Bears hosted Whitesville Trinity.  This was the freshman's first game of the season and for several of our girls their first game ever.  Set one was close, but Butler lost 16-21.  The second set was more lopsided as the Lady Bears fell 9-21.  Coach Flener was happy with the effort and what he saw out of the young squad. The JV game followed with much of the same results as Whitesville defeated Butler in two straight sets by scores of 21-10 and 21-12.  With the loss, the JV team is now 2-2.

The first set of the varsity game was a barn burner. BCHS Lady Bears played their best game to date.  The set was close most of the way. Trinity captured the lead late in the set, but the Lady Bears would not go away quietly as they fought back to take the lead 25-24.  Trinity rallied and won 27-25.  After a heartbreaking loss in set one, the girls came out a little flat in the second set and was defeated by a score of 25-11.  In set three Trinity jumped out to a quick lead, 5-0. The rest of the game was even, but Trinity proved to be too much for the Lady Bears on this night winning the last set 25-18.  Coach Minton was proud of the way the girls never quit battling.  Trinity is one of the better teams that Butler will face this year. To play them like this says a great deal for our program. The coaching staff and players would like to thank everyone that came out to support our team Thursday. The crowd was supportive and very energetic.   Next week the Lady Bears continue district play, hosting Grayson County on Tuesday and Edmonson County on Thursday.
