BCHS Track Team Grows; Scott Breaks School Record

Shaedy Scott, a junior at BCHS, unofficially broke Butler County’s girl’s 100 meter dash record. The record was previously held by Elizabeth Hilliker with a time of 14.18 seconds. Scott broke the record last week with a time of 14.11 seconds.

The Butler County Track team began their season with two very strong meets. The team traveled to Grayson County where they battled against many larger schools such as Elizabethtown, Meade County, Muhlenberg County, and South Warren. A few days later, the team traveled to an even tougher meet at South Warren where Bowling Green, Warren Central, and Greenwood also competed.

When asked about the team’s performance against some really tough competition head coach Jim Melton had this to say: “We are running in meets against many larger schools. The competition is tougher, by the time 2A Region comes around, we’ll be ready.”

Though Butler County has a very young team, the Bears are excited about the milestones they can reach this season. The Bears are hoping for a return to the State competition in the high jump event by Dylan Havens. The Lady Bears have also posted a very promising 4x4 relay time which gives them the same opportunity. The team as a whole has actually grown quite a bit compared to recent years. The team now has 5 boys and 3 girls participating in field events, unlike past teams which only had 1 to 2 people competing in such events.

The Bears travel to Muhlenberg County on Thursday for their only meet this week. Butler County will also be hosting its Senior Night at home against Ohio County on April 18th.
