BCHS Track Team Celebrates Senior Night
On Tuesday, the Butler County High School Track Team celebrated Senior Night. Since the school does not have enough equipment for a large home meet, Butler and Ohio County High Schools have made an agreement in which each school alternates hosting Senior Night ceremonies. Therefore, five Ohio County Seniors were honored along with four Butler County Seniors. The ceremony took place at 6:30 p.m. mid-way through the home meet. The four Butler County Seniors that were honored were Candace Ibarra, Dylan Havens, Kenneth Johnson, and Paula Hilliker. All four seniors have plans of attending college.
Candace Ibarra is the daughter of Christine Clark and Robert Ibarra. She has played softball, volleyball, and ran track throughout High School. She is the commanding officer of the Butler County High School NJROTC unit, plans on attending Florida A&M on an NJROTC scholarship. She wants to obtain a Marine Biology Degree. She then wants to become a Naval Officer.
Dylan Havens is the son of Lloyd and Tabby Havens. He has run track for four years, cross country for three years, and played football for four years. Havens, who went to the state track competition last year in the high jump event, has received a Track & Field scholarship for Berea College.
Kenneth Johnson is the son of Tammie and Ronnie Cardwell. He has run cross country, track and played soccer during High School. Johnson plans to attend Western Kentucky University this fall and double major in Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy.
Paula Hilliker is the daughter of Sherry L’Heureux and Jeff Hilliker. She has run track for four years, and played soccer for three. She plans on attending South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College (formerly known as Bowling Green Technical College).
Although Ohio County was the only opposing squad during this home meet, the night was filled with many competitive races. The highlight of the night however was the strong showing in the High Jump event from Dylan Havens. Havens, who made it to the state competition last year in this event with a height of 5’8”, reached a height of 5’10”. With this height Havens hopes to reach the state competition once more in the weeks to come.
