BCHS Tennis:Girls 3-0, Boys 4-1

It was a contrast in wins for the BCHS tennis teams on Thursday, as they traveled to Logan County to take on the Cougars.  While the boys team match came down to the final match, the Lady Bears swept the field.

In girls action, after a layoff of more than a week, due to inclement weather and JV girls matches, the varsity squad finally took to the courts.  And while there was some noticeable rust, it really did not matter, once things got moving.  The closest matches for the girls were in the doubles realm.  The #2 team of Chanda Hampton/Katona Dockery rolled quickly at #2 doubles, winning 8-1.  The #1 (Emily Wallace/Sierra Fields) and #3 (Laura Hunt/Hannah Barrow) made things interesting for a while though, before pulling through with 8-5 wins.  The early rust seemed to disappear, as singles matches got started, with the top six girls only giving up a total of six games.

The girls moved their record to 3-0.

The boys team dual with Logan County ended up being quite the contrast, but the Bears were able to offer just a bit more depth.  The boys started off play with singles.  While the Bears were pulling out wins at the #4 (Amit Hajari, 8-4), #5 (Remmington Harpe, 8-6), and #6 (Ivan Beasley, 8-6) positions, the top three spots were not as fortunate.  All three spots were close, but some apparent rust and early deficits were just a bit much to overcome for #1 (Matthew Embry, 6-8), #2 (Brennan Grubb, 7-9), and #3 (Dakota Merrick, 5-8).  With the dual knotted at 3 wins for both teams, the team winner would be decided by who would take two out of the three doubles matches.  The #3 doubles team of Harpe/Beasley put Butler County up 4-3, with a quick 8-0 victory.  Logan pulled things even again though taking the #1 doubles win over Merrick/Embry by a score of 8-3.  The last remaining match, the #2 doubles would decide the dual.  The Butler County fanfare got a bit worried, after Hajari/Grubb found themselves trailing 3-5.  However, the duo would regroup and go on a tear, with a 5-0 game-run, to finish off the match 8-5.

The win, moves the boys team record to 4-1, going into spring break.

Both teams will be go into spring break with plenty of upswing.  The teams will regroup on Wednesday, for a mini-camp in Nashville.  The girls will return to action on Friday, as they take on defending Indiana Girls Tennis Team State Champions, Evansville Memorial.  Both teams will then return to action after spring break, on Monday April 8th, at Muhlenberg County.
