BCHS Tennis: Girls 5-1, Boys 5-1

Butler County’s Boys and Girls tennis teams both move to 5-1 on the season after completion of two weeks of play. Last week’s schedule rounded out with a home match against Cloverport on Thursday and an away match against Owensboro Catholic on Friday. Both teams won quite easily against Cloverport with the boy’s team sweeping all matches. On Friday, the Bears traveled to Moreland Park in Owensboro to face a powerhouse in Owensboro Catholic. The boys played some hard and very close matches, but came up a little short. Catholic pulled out the win 2-3. Remmington Harpe played a tough singles match which went into tie breaker. He kept his focus and came away with the win. The other boy’s win came from the doubles pair of Dakota Merrick and Austin Phelps who also ended up in a tie break situation after winning the first set 6-0 and losing the second set 3-6. Brennan Grubb and Matthew Embry weren’t able to knock off the number one and number two seeds. The Bears third loss came from a forfeit because the team didn’t have enough players. The girl’s match at Owensboro Catholic proved to be quite entertaining with several very close matches as well. Butler County’s girls showed some grit and determination to pull off a win 6-3. Chanda Hampton played some good tennis on Friday night and fought to the finish to overtake her opponent in a tie break after winning the first set 6-0 and losing the second set 5-7. Katona Dockery also got a win in another close match, but was able to get the better of her opponent without having to go to tie break. Emily Wallace showed total domination against her opponent while Rachel Johnson played another tight match for the girls. Johnson, playing one of her best matches of the season, defeated her competition 9-7. Individual results are as follows:
