BCHS Tennis Continues Winning Ways
Varsity Boys Sweep Cloverport- Team Record now at 3-1
The Butler County High School Tennis Teams hosted 3rd Region foe Cloverport on Friday March 22nd. The boys match was a varsity match, whereas the girls match saw Butler County's junior varsity girls defeat the Cloverport varsity girls, in a match that counted as "JV" match.
In boys action, Brennan Grubb and Amit Hajari both picked up singles victories for the Bears. At #2 Singles, Amit Hajari picked up a 6-1 6-3 win over an inexperienced, but impressive and improving opponent. At #1 Singles, Brennan Grubb came in as an underdog, against a considerable more-experienced opponent. Brennan would not go quietly though. The first set was a back and forth battle, with neither player able to gain a sizable lead. The first set alone was lasting well beyond an hour, if not 90 minutes. Finally, the two found themselves knotted at 6-6 in the first set. A tiebreaker would be played, with the first to reach seven the winner. In the tiebreaker, Grubb jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, taking the tiebreaker 7-2. Deflated from the first set loss, Grubb's opponent folded in the second set and the set was a relatively fast 6-0 win for Grubb.
In boys doubles, the #1 team of Dakota Merrick/Matthew Embry would make it a clean sweep of the Aces. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Bears duo seemed to think the match was in the bag, before the Aces got back into the match and played a relatively even match the rest of the way, before Embry/Merrick finished off their opponent
JV Girls def Cloverport (Varsity) 7-2
The JV girls moved their record to 2-0, matching their Lady Bear varsity counterparts' record of 2-0.
The JV girls got things off right, sweeping the doubles matches, with relative ease. The trend generally continued in singles, as the Lady Bears won three of the five singles matches that were played. The two closest matches of the evening came at #2 and #3 singles. At #2, it was a battle of servers, as neither player could "break" the other's serve. Finally, at 7 serving 8, Rachel Johnson succumbed and dropped a hard fought 7-9 decision. At #3 singles, Dalys Bishop found herself in a similar match, except her and her opponent were both "breaking" serve. At 8-8, Bishop found herself in a tiebreak, which she won with relative ease, 7-3.
